North Idaho Fly Casters

Big Hank Creek. Conservation Festival 1999. Festival 1999 was held on Saturday, June 12, at Big Hank Meadows. Big Hank Creek had for years meandered through the meadow and was outside of its most probable ancestral course. After study, the Forest Service found a reliable stream channel to place it in. At the new creek location a wet water ford has been provided to allow campers access to part of the meadow without destroying stream banks. The restored stream location reestablishes a more natural channel, which provides better fish habitat. NIFC members and volunteers planted 1400 willow, cottonwood and conifers to stabilize the banks and riparian areas. A lunch and program including understanding the raparian zone of fresh water streams and identifying aquatic insects was part of the Festival 99 activities.
