North Idaho Fly Casters was awarded the prestigious McKenzie Cup
by the International
Federation of Fly Fishers in 2000 for it's ongoing and exemplary work in
stream and lake conservation. This has greatly benefited the north Idaho
panhandle fisheries and will continue to bring further benefits on into
the future. In addition to the club's conservation ongoing projects,
NIFC has invested consistently in education of the local community and
provided a special focus on youth involvement in all aspects of fly
fishing including fly tying, fly casting, and fly fishing ethics. The
primary focus of our conservation projects has been towards Westslope
Cutthroat, Wild Rainbow and Bull Trout habitat. An important component
of our activities has been involving families and especially children,
in activities that lead to an understanding and appreciation of wild
trout and their carefully balanced environments, and helping to restore
and improve those habitats.
